Guanacaste's climate is described as a forested desert. The green season is usually the months of May and part of June. The remainder of June, July, August, and September are warm, humid, and marked with rain showers. You can usually expect heavy rain in October (2010 was an exception--hot and dry). November through April are usually hot and dry. Arenal, Costa Rica's active volcano is located about a 4-hour drive away. The roads to Arenal vary in condition, depending on the rains. The Puerto Carrillo area Puerto Carrillo is a world destination for deep-sea fishing. Fishing guides are available and reservations may be made in advance. Eco tours, kayaking tours, scuba lessons, surfing lessons are all available locally. Playa Carrillo is a 2.5 km. palm-lined, white sand beach where you can enjoy jogging, body surfing, bird-watching, shell collecting, and swimming.
